Jiminy Cricket appears as the Talking Cricket in the book, Pinocchio. The Disney movie is based on a children's fantasy novel that appeared as a serial in a newspaper called The Adventures of Pinocchio, written in 1881 and 1882 by Italian Author Carlo Collodi of Tuscany. Toby Bluth created this watercolor of Jiminy Cricket based on the Disney movie where Jiminy Cricket is the Talking Cricket. "Toby" Frederick L. Bluth (July 1940 - October 2013) Toby Bluth happened to be one of those shining gems of talent that drew inspiration from the life and work of Walt Disney.
